Building solidarity and reunifying our communities.
The Co-founders of ADA have been living, studying, and working in solidarity with grassroots organizations in Cuba since 2014. Diaspora Excursions were specifically created to help support ADA’s 501c3 initiative, Youth of the Diaspora(YOTD). Our Baltimore based youth program enables students to enjoy fully-funded study abroad opportunities while receiving a political education. Proceeds from our Diaspora Excursions directly contribute to the sustainability of our youth program. We have facilitated over a dozen Diaspora Excursions in Havana and have expanded to Cartagena, Colombia, Ghana, Arusha, Tanzania, and Lisbon, Portugal. ADA’s itineraries are centered on building solidarity and reunifying our African descendant communities. Diaspora Excursions de-center traditional modes of tourist consumption through authentic cultural exchanges, workshops, and events. When you travel with ADA you are able to directly contributing to providing educational opportunities for our young people!

“Educationally, the ADA formulates keen curriculums and activities centered firmly on African culture, history, and worldview. During our 2018 excursion to Cuba, we explored several historical museums, visited former maroon communities, and participated in “liberation lectures” that exposed us to the revolutionary history of Afro-Cuba. In merely eight days, our students covered content akin to a university semester.
Culturally, the ADA provides invaluable lessons on African community building and solidarity. Their personable approach to transnational organizing seems effortless. As adept Spanish translators, Jasmine and Moriah proved to my students how common language connects a people from two sets of cultural experiences—Afro-Cubans and African-Americans. Furthermore, their sharp political and social teachings permeated within my group’s personal reflections, challenging us as a whole to establish greater critical sociopolitical analyses.

During the planning phase of our excursion, several of my students expressed dire personal and financial needs, yet our needs remained treated with patience and thoughtfulness.
